‘In the broadest sense this thesis is a study of Yolŋu sociality at the level of interpersonal exchange. It considers the extent to which certain key local concepts associated with emotion and morality shape interpersonal exchange and sociality in everyday life. The contention is that these are local concepts of value which motivate -and are realized in -culturally recognized and recognizable forms of exchange.’
