If “ownership is key to care” I must be pretty negligent

Private property relations are the key to self-actualisation and social order according to the Opinion section of the NT News today…

‘NOT enough “good news” stories come out of the Territory’s Aboriginal community.

So it was heartening to report yesterday that indigenous people are moving into new homes as part of the $1 billion SIHIP initiative.

People such as Colin James will own their homes for the first time in their lives. “I will cherish it forever and pass it on to my kids,” he says.

Home ownership is vitally important to modern man; it meets our deepest ingrained need for shelter and security.

Most indigenous people don’t own their houses – they rent them from the NT Government.

And it is obvious that this lack of ownership has led to a lack of care.’
