    Do you really think his work puts him in the same league as Mauss? Seems to me he was more of a translator of ideas originally published in French, even to the extent of using Mauss’ ethnographic tropes to drive his narrative. “Stone Age Economics”? – the title indicates his blindness to the ubiquity of this kind of exchange. No matter, each to their own. I prefer his stuff on history and structure.

  3. Thanks. I don’t really compare Sahlins and Mauss so much. I read Sahlins’ work as heavily influenced by/inspired by/building on the work of Mauss.
