Crossin seeks more money for remote outstations – ABC News

‘Northern Territory Senator Trish Crossin says she will push the Federal Government to reconsider its decision to strip indigenous outstation communities of funding for services next year.

In 2007, the government decided to concentrate funding in 20 Territory indigenous communities, and forced the Territory Government to take over funding services to 500 small outstations.

The Commonwealth gave the Territory $20 million a year for three years to fund the outstations.

The Territory is now asking for an extension.

Senator Crossin says she is supporting the push.

“The Commonwealth is going to need to, I think, recognise that for some period of time to come they are going to need to support those communities outside the growth towns.”‘
