No one is illegal: 100 protesting at Darwin centre – ABC News

‘An asylum seeker says 100 detainees at Darwin’s Northern Immigration Detention Facility are holding a protest.

The man, who did not want to be named, says 100 men from Afghanistan and Iran spread white sheets on the ground this morning and are sitting together in protest.

He says the men are angry that six detainees who held a rooftop protest yesterday were talked down on the promise they could speak to Immigration Department officials.

That did not happen, he says.

He says the men were put in an isolation compound but were later released when today’s protest began.

The asylum seeker says the 100 detainees are continuing their protest and are calling for the Immigration Department to hold talks with them over delays in their cases.’
