‘The co-author of a report which triggered the Federal Government intervention in the Northern Territory says some good has come out of the emergency response.
The intervention into Aboriginal communities began four years ago in response to the Little Children are Sacred report, co-written by lawyer Rex Wild, QC.
He says he does not agree with the government response but concedes it has had some benefits.
“What’s good about it, is that people are talking about it,” he said.
“It is important that the people in the Territory are aware that there are problems and that people with the money, being the governments, are aware of the problems and are now starting to consult a bit better than they have been and did in the early days.”
However, Mr Wild says it is time for the emergency response to be dismantled.’
