UN commissioner visits NT amid intervention concerns – ABC News

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights says she is concerned about the treatment of Indigenous people in Australia and the Federal Government’s mandatory detention policies.

Navi Pillay is in Australia to assess whether it is complying with its international obligations.

On the first day of her visit, she toured Darwin’s immigration detention centre and met with Aboriginal elders who told her they are being discriminated against under the Northern Territory intervention.
