Tjirrikitj and Bilimbil watching the local service provider plane arrive.

The airstrip is the centre of camp life and among other names it is referred to as ‘luku‘ meaning ‘foot, footprint, anchor, root’.

For reasons too lengthy to explain in this short post, Family used to mow the shape of a whale’s tail into the end of the airstrip where it meets the sea. Tjirrikitj died after eating a cane toad a few months after this was taken, gumurr-djarrark Bilimbil is still going strong.
